Event: Vietnam: The Tet Offensive

Monday January 22, 2018
7:00 PM until 8:45 PM

January 30, 2018, marks the 50th anniversary of the Tet Offensive. This was the largest and most important campaign of the Vietnam War. Taking advantage of a cease-fire to celebrate the first day of the Vietnamese New Year holiday (T?t), Vietcong fighters launched attacks against virtually every significant target in South Vietnam. Although General Westmoreland judged the attack to be a complete military success for his forces, the more immediate impact of ‘Tet’ was political. ‘Tet’ re-energized the anti-war movement, having exploded all prior official assurances that America was winning in Vietnam and that the war would soon be over.

In his usual lively style, Dr. Hylander will explain the background of this historic event, and its effects on the history that followed.
