Hometown Habitat - Stories of Bringing Nature Home
Tuesday May 9, 2017
7:00 PM until 9:00 PM
The Citizens for Lexington Conservation and the Lexington Field and Garden Club are hosting two events that focus on how individual homeowners and community groups can create Meadow Landscapes populated with native plants that support native pollinators and birds.
This second event will feature a showing of Hometown Habitat - Stories of Bringing Nature Home. This film, which focuses on developing meadow landscaping in community spaces, profiles seven hometown habitat heroes who have created Meadow Landscapes. The narrative thread of this documentary is provided by renowned entomologist Douglas Tallamy, Ph.D. whose research, books and lectures about the use of non-native plants in landscaping sound the alarm about habitat and species loss. Dr. Tallamy challenges the notion that humans are here and nature is someplace else. Tallamy says, “It doesn’t have to and shouldn’t be that way.”
Event will be held at the lecture room at Cary Memorial Library. Event is free and refreshments will be provided.
