The Artist Plates Project is a traveling exhibition of artist created “dinner plates” created by participating artists from all over the country as well as France and Canada. The focus of the project, conceived by Don Mistretta, was to raise awareness and funds for the hungry through the grass roots organization, Hunger Relief through the Arts Foundation. Each artist began with an unfinished birch wood platter about the size of a dinner plate and uniquely painted, carved, sculpted and glazed to create their statement on the plight of the homeless, the unfortunate, and the hungry. This project ran for 10 years at multiple venues. The exhibition at the Great Neck Library Gallery highlights works from the project.
