Frank Gill is a retired ornithologist and author of the textbook Ornithology.
The birds of the Adirondacks and their habitats have changed dramatically in the past 200 years and continue to do so. Colonizing species challenge established species and as does climate change. However, the mosaic of habitat “islands” of the Adirondacks may mimic oceanic archipelagos, where new species evolve over short time spans.
