Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiver Support Initiative, which provides free support services to those caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease and memory disorders in northern New York, will host a free information session at 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 15, at Keene Valley Public Library. Dr. Richard Durant, the initiative’s director, will provide an overview of dementia and related memory disorders, along with the services available for caregivers and care receivers via the Caregiver Support Initiative. Bio:

Dr. Richard Durant serves as the director of Caregiver Support Initiative, and is an assistant professor of clinical neuropsychology at SUNY Plattsburgh. He also serves as a clinical director and clinical neuropsychology at the SUNY Plattsburgh Center for Neurobehavioral Health which aims to provide comprehensive lifespan services of the highest quality to people in the community whose lives have been affected by neurologically-based disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Also known as We Help Caregivers, the Caregiver Support Initiative provides free support services to those caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease and memory disorders in northern New York, across Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Warren and Washington Counties. The Initiative’s goal is to reduce caregivers’ financial, emotional and physical stress, and improve caregivers’ overall health and quality of life, while also reducing the number of care receiver emergency visits and institutional placements. Operated by The Center of Neurobehavioral Health, it is an affiliated program of the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Plattsburgh and is supported by the SUNY Research Foundation.
