Tell a friend about an EventKeeper Calendar Event

Event: Studio Days by Suzanne Hodes

Saturday June 10, 2017
2:00 PM until 3:30 PM

My art memoir Studio Days is about the creative process as I have experienced it during 50 years as a successful artist, with work in more than 600 collections.  I share how I have combined family life and peace activism with an art career despite having serious illness starting at age 30. From the 125 images in the book, I will show several dozen as they relate to my story. My Art talk will include  images of events in our shared history:  the Kennedy and King Assassination, the attack  on 9/11, the gulf oil spill, and  my peace activism.

I describe my exhibitions, and many sources of inspiration from other artists, such as Giovanni Bellini and Philip Guston. I also write about the studio community, Artists West Studios, which I helped establish in 1980 in an empty floor of a Waltham factory building. The group “Artists for Survival,” which I co-founded in 1982, was devoted to supporting the nuclear freeze and social justice. We organized over 100 exhibitions in New England and several in Washington DC, and created the Save Life on Earth posters used in the New York City peace march in 1982.

We worked with Dr. Bernard Lown on the international Save Life on Earth catalog and with  Senator John Kerry  and  Congressman Ed Markey on our peace exhibitions in Washington DC.
