Museum Highlights: NUDES & NAKED PAINTINGS FROM THE PRADO MUSEUM, MADRID

The lecture will explore the role of the nude in the works of European old masters of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. All the works are part of the collections of the Prado Museum in Madrid and most of them were part of the Spanish royal collections. The lecture is based on a remarkable 2016 exhibition organized by the Clark Institute, Williamstown, Massachusetts and the Prado Museum. Among the paintings discussed will be works by Titian, Peter Paul Rubens, Jacopo Tintoretto, Diego Velázquez, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Guercino, Nicolas Poussin, Luca Giordano, Guido Reni, Jusepe de Ribera, and others.
