As a moderate Republican, Eisenhower had to accept Richard Nixon as his vice-president. Did he provide a needed calm in the 1950s? Telegenic JFK (a new standard for hair against bald headed politicians) aroused many Americans (especially the young) in his plans “to get the nation moving again.”
