Event: Poetry Circle: T.S. Eliot (1888-1965)

Thursday January 12, 2017
7:00 PM

Thomas Stearns Eliot  (1888-1965) confounded critics and inspired young English and American poets when his poetry appeared during and after the First World War. His reputation as one of the foundation pillars of twentieth century poetry continued into the 1960’s when he began to dissolve into the past as a Nobel Prize winner who had written the lyrics for a Broadway hit, Cats, and allowed his prejudices to contaminate his poetry. Vagaries of popular reputation discarded, he is an innovative poet of subtle wit and imagination with a profound sense of rhythm and concision who brilliantly evokes the Zeitgeist of the modern age. A century later many of his lines remain keynotes in our vision of our world. Registration suggested.
