Author Talk: Alexis Clark Discusses Enemies in Love
Thursday September 20, 2018
7:00 PM until 8:00 PM
This evening there will be an author talk by journalism professor Alexis Clark about her new biography called "Enemies in Love" (New Press, c2018). This is a true love story between a black army nurse who falls in love with a German prisoner of war in Arizona during World War II. Elinor Powell was an African American nurse in the U.S. military who pulled a second-class assignment, in a dusty, sun-baked - and segregated - Western town. Brought together by unlikely circumstances in a racist world, Elinor and Frederick Albert, a soldier in Hitler's army who was captured by the allies and shipped to a prisoner-of-war camp in the Arizona desert, fell in love - instead of becoming bitter enemies. Their dramatic story was unearthed by journalist Alexis Clark, who through years of interviews and historical research, has pieced together an astounding narrative of race and true love in the cauldron of war. Don't miss this interesting biographical talk by Professor Clark at the library. This event is jointly sponsored by the Milton Historical Society, the Milton Public Library and the Milton Junior Woman's Club.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PROGRAM WILL BE HELD AT THE MILTON ART CENTER, 334 EDGE HILL ROAD, MILTON. THANK YOU.
