Jersey Shore Poets presents Poets Live! A celebration of National Poetry Month
Featured poets Laura McCullough and BJ Ward will read from their work. After a short break, members of Jersey Shore Poets will also share their poetry. The day will wrap up with an open mic session where attendees may sign up to read 1 or 2 poems of their own (maximum 3 minutes, please).
Laura McCullough's recently published work The Wild Night Dress was selected by Billy Collins in the Miller Williams Poetry Prize Series. Her other books of poems include Jersey Mercy, Rigger Death & Hoist Another, Panic, Speech Acts, What Men Want, and The Dancing Bear. She conceived of and curated two anthologies of essays on poetry. She has had fellowships or scholarships from Bread Loaf Writers Conference, Sewanee Writers Conference, The Vermont Studio Center, the NJ State Arts Council, among others. Her prose and poetry have appeared widely in places such as Michigan Quarterly Review, The Southern Review, The American Poetry Review, and Best American Poetry, among others. She teaches full time at Brookdale Community College and teaches for the Stockton University Winter Poetry and Prose Getaway. BJ Ward is the author of four books of poetry, most recently Jackleg Opera: Collected Poems 1990-2013. His poems have appeared in Poetry, American Poetry Review, TriQuarterly, The New York Times, The Normal School and The Sun. He is the recepient of a Pushcart Prize and two Distinguished Artist Fellowships from the NJ State Council on the Arts. His website is www.bj-ward.com.
