Description: This session will provide a foundation for participants to embark on a discussion of best practices for:
- equitably reporting grades from special education placements;
- assigning titles and points to students' courses'
- identifying modified and accommodated curriculum on reportcards;
- legally documenting courses/grades for transcripts; and
- identifying equity concerns for graduation requirements/diplomas.
Attorney Sowyrda will review state and federal laws and provide examples of court decisions. There will be time allotted for table discussion around issues that are impacting equitable opportunities for students with disabilities. Participants may share best practices and scenarios. This is an opportunity to share and problem-solve with districts, collaboratives and private schools in the southeast region. Participants may sign up for continuation of the discussion through a series of workgroups extending through the 2017-18 school year.
