Saturday February 17, 2018
11:00 AM until 12:00 PM
11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Read to Tundra our reading education assistance dog. Tundra, a certified therapy dog, will be accompanied by his owner Pamela Wall who is volunteering her time for the program. There will be four 15-minuted slots for reading. Registration is required for this program and will begin on February 10.
Why read to a dog?
Animals are ideal reading companions because they:
* listen attentively * do not judge, laugh or criticize
* allow children to proceed at their own pace * are less intimidating than peers
When a dog is "listening" fear of failure is removed allowing a child to learn more effectively. The dog's handler is a skilled facilitator who provides subtle support without creating performance pressure in the child.
