The Needs of the Time - Thomaston in WWI
Tuesday May 16, 2017
6:30 PM until 7:45 PM
Emily McAdam, a graduate student in the Public History program at Central Connecticut State University, will present "The Needs of the Time: Thomaston, Connecticut in World War I," to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the United States' entry into World War I, and keep the sacrifices in everyone's memory. The program features photographs from the collections of the Thomaston Historical Society. In addition to discussing the broader context of the period, she will talk about how Thomaston's industry in times of peace poised the town to make significant contributions in times of war, which, in turn, shaped its society and culture.
McAdam's research on local history also includes: 20th century Thomaston industry; New Britain industry, education, and architecture; the Hopkins land on Lake Waramaug; and the Bakerville Library. She teaches United States History and Global Studies at Litchfield High School.
Emily is a native of Thomaston. She lives in New Hartford with her husband, Seth Newton, and daughter, Eloise.
The program at the library is being presented in conjunction with the Thomaston Historical Society and the Thomaston Historical Commission. It's free, but registration is suggested. Please stop by the library or call to register.
