Join us for a two-part afternoon of sci-fi creatures and ice cream that is sure to give you the summer shivers!  We first welcome author and visual artist Matthew Buchholz for an “Alternate Histories” picture presentation that combines vintage artwork and photography with the creatures of your favorite classic monster movies!

Afterward, we’ll celebrate the days of the drive-in and double feature with “creature comforts” like malted drinks and ice cream for a Sundae Social chock-full of toppings and good conversation.

Bio: Matthew Buchholz grew up in Tucson, AZ, graduated from NYU, lived in Brooklyn for years and then moved to Pittsburgh in 2008. He now combines a love of history and bad sci-fi movies into his art. His work takes historic images and then adds something from a pop culture sci-fi background.

At times it can seem like there’s no distinction between “true” history and a collective pop history. Science fiction takes this one step further by introducing elements of otherness that we project onto our own social fears and concerns. I’m remaking history…with monsters and robots!
