The Joe Carter Samba Rio Trio Performs at the Library
Sunday September 24, 2017
2:00 PM until 3:00 PM
Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with The Joe Carter Samba Rio Trio. This international trio, Joe Carter (U.S.) – violao (classical nylon string guitar); Leco Reis (Brazil) – baixo (acoustic bass) and Adriano Santos (Brazil) – bateria e percussao (drums and percussion, is well versed in the various Brazilian styles of music ~ Samba, Bossa Nova, Baiao, Choro. By combining this music with straight-ahead Hard Bop Jazz, the trio creates a style known as Brazilian Jazz. Think "Jobim meets Coltrane." The trio’s repertoire is a combination of original tunes and songs by some of Brazil’s classic composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ary Barroso, Baden Powell, Noel Rosa, Dorival Caymmi, Pixinguinha and others. By adding the improvisational aspect of North American Jazz to the mixture, the group creates a sound that is truly international and one that has entertained appreciative audiences on four continents. Highlights have included concerts and club appearances in Paris, Mumbai, Corsica, Stuttgart and Rio de Janeiro. Seating is limited, so reservations are required starting August 28, online or at the library’s Reference Desk at 860-652-7720.
