Sun, Nov 8, 2009 -- Last Lion: A Conversation about Ted Kennedy at 3:00 PM

Tackling the life of the late Ted Kennedy, one of the most polarizing U.S. senators of all-time — not to mention one of the most written about — might seem like a daunting task. Add to that a strict deadline, and it might seem nearly impossible.

But when Boston Globe journalists Joe Kahn, Neil Swidey and Bella English were handed their assignments last year, none of them wavered. The fruits of their efforts and the rest of the Globe's seven-person team, led by then Washington bureau chief Peter Canellos, became the best-selling biography, “Last Lion: The Fall and Rise of Ted Kennedy.” The book tells Kennedy's life story from birth through his ongoing battle with a malignant brain tumor.

Kahn, Swidey and English will visit Hingham on Sunday, November 8th to discuss their writing experiences, along with some of the more controversial themes that surfaced while compiling Kennedy's story. Library Trustee and former Boston Globe writer David Mehegan will moderate this lively conversation about ted Kennedy's life and the complexities of writing a multi-authored bestseller. The program, sponsored by the Trustees of the Hingham Public Library, will be held at Hingham Town Hall's Sanborn Auditorium, 210 Central Street at 3 pm. The event will be followed by a book-signing and reception at which the attendees can meet the writers. Advance tickets are $5.00 and are on sale now. A limited number of tickets will be available at Town hall on the afternoon of the event. There will be no reserved seating.
