2 Saturdays, November 7 & 14 from 1 pm to 3 pm
Learn how to crochet at the library! In our first class, you will be instructed how to begin the foundation of your project. You will also learn the basic stitches…..slip stitch, single crochet, double crochet and how to finish off your project. The instructor will provide the practice yarn. In our second class, you will begin creating your first lap afghan with whatever yarn you choose to bring. The pattern and a list for yarn needed will be provided by the instructor at the previous class. You will need an aluminum crochet hook - G or H is a good size to start with. Future students entering kindergarten in 2010 will do Kindergarten readiness activities, hear stories, have parachute fun, and work with colors, alphabet, sorting, and rhyming words. Kids may meet other future students and make early friendships! Sessions will be on Mon., but moved to Wed. on holiday weeks. Registration starts August 17, with the first session starting Sept. 9.

Back by Popular Demand!!! Okay, so you understand how to use Show vs. Tell; you can incorporate Point of View; you value scenes as building blocks to your story; you’ve mastered dialogue, setting, tone, pace, & structure. Now that you get it, will your reader? Find out at this fall’s Natalie D. Craumer Writers Workshop, where you're invited to submit up to 15 pages for critique by your writing peers. This critique workshop will be led by Ann Elia Stewart, recipient of a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts fellowship, and a published fiction and creative nonfiction writer. It is intended for writers who are serious about publishing their work and want honest feedback that will help them improve their chances. While critiques will be guided toward diplomacy, the session does have two realistic requirements: a finished short story or opening chapter and an extremely thick skin. The first three writers to sign up will be reviewed the first night (stories will be forwarded prior to the first session/email addresses required). Three more writers will be critiqued each night, until all participants' work has a chance to be reviewed by the group. Registration starts September 1. Call 761-3900 x225.
