Paper Art with Montserrat College of Art at the Wenham Museum
Paper & Art Saturday, March 13 Watch how paper is made and create a paper collage, a popular recycle-art form of the 20th century. Culinary Creations in Paper Sculpture Saturday, March 20 Paper isn't always two-dimensional; it can be three dimensional and sensational, too. Concoct a culinary masterpiece as you learn the importance of color, texture and plate presentation, all without the use of a kitchen. Quill You Do It? Saturday, March 27 The art of paper quilling-rolling thin strips of paper into intricate designs-had been practiced for hundreds of years, from the ladies of ancient Egypt to the nuns of the 18th century. A tour of the gallery will inspire students to create their own low-relief nature-inspired compositions. Students, ages 9+, will tour the Paper Capers exhibit with the instructor for inspiration in designing their work of art pre-registration required for each workshop. $25 for a single workshop, $60 for all three

Birds

Discover the fascinating world of bird behavior. Learn how birds have evolved through adaptation to survive in the modern world. This program is both entertaining and educational. Beautiful images of birds are choreographed to music followed by an educational narration. This program covers evolutionary differences in the anatomy of birds and how it effects behavior. Life cycles of birds are demonstrated with wonderful images of birds nesting and feeding. Learned and instinctive behavior is shown and explained. The ability to adapt to environmental change is discussed and demonstrated with images. The importance of preserving habitat is emphasized.

Instructor Bio: Gail Hansche Godin is an award-winning nature photographer and a life-long naturalist. She has been published in Massachusetts Wildlife and National Wildlife magazine. She has won numerous national and international awards. Gail presents multi-media programs combining images, music and narration for both education and entertainment. www.featherfotos.com

HW GREEN Workshop about GREEN COMMUNITIES: The Stretch Code - not a big stretch
We invite builders, developers, architects, realtors, and others interested in residential construction to attend this workshop, the first of three, about the Stretch Code, which the towns must adopt in order to be eligible for federal stimulus funds. If we succeed in becoming Green Communities, Hamilton and Wenham will be eligible for grants from federal stimulus funds of $10 million per year. In fact, each town has already won $150,000 of federal stimulus funds, which will be applied to making town facilities more energy-efficient. So please join us to learn more about this important opportunity, and what we need to do to be eligible.
