All Our Relations Métis Drum Circle in the Lobby at Central
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Bring the whole family to experience this Native hand drum performance! The All Our Relations Métis Drum Circle will be performing in the lobby at 6:30 pm for about 20 minutes and again at 7:00 pm for a second performance.

The Circle was formed by Métis women from the Oshawa and Durham Region Métis Council in 2008 who wanted to learn about, celebrate and honour First Nation heritage. The group has performed at many local events and members continue to increase as indigenous women and friends of the indigenous culture and community are welcomed to join.

The Oshawa and Durham Region Métis Council invite Métis, indigenous and non-indigenous people of all ages to participate with us in the celebration of our Métis history, values, culture, and languages which form our proud heritage. French Conversation Circle

Conversation Circles give Newcomers an opportunity to practice their French conversation skills in a welcoming environment and to learn about Canadian culture, with the help of volunteers from the Community Development Council Durham (CDCD).  Participants from all over the world, with a variety of language abilities, come together to discuss topics, have questions answered, share stories, learn about library resources, and so much more! Adult Indigenous Craft with the Durham Métis Cultural Crafting Circle at Central
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Come experience Métis crafting and culture in a relaxed fun environment. In this workshop you'll craft your own traditional leather pouch using pony beads for decoration. To round out this special Indigenous evening, the All Our Relations Métis Drum Circle will be performing in the lobby at 6:30 pm, so make sure you come early! Teen Leadership Council at Brooklin

Do you want to meet other teens, contribute to library services and programs, and earn community service hours? The Brooklin Branch of the Whitby Public Library is looking for members for our Teen Leadership Council.  This group will meet once a month to discuss books, programs, video games, movies, music, and more.  Participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas and help develop outstanding library services for youth.  Participants will be able to create displays, suggest materials for purchasing, assist with special events and programs, and have a say about what goes on at the library. 

If you are in grades 7 through 12 and would like to get involved, come out to a meeting and see what it’s all about! Snacks will be provided. Meetings will take place at the Brooklin Branch on the fourth Friday of every month from 4:00 - 5:00 pm. No registration required.

Please note, this group will not meet in June, July and August.

Knit'B'Cause is an intergenerational knitting program for children in grades 3-8. We teach the basics - how to cast on, how to knit, how to purl and how to cast off - while making items for various charity groups. We have made red scarves for AIDS, comfort dolls for an international aid organization and lap blankets for seniors, among other items. We are currently full and our waitlist is full as well. Please check back in the fall.

The Durham Infant Hearing Screening Clinic is hosted by the Tri-Regional Infant Hearing Program in partnership with the Whitby Public Library.  Babies up to four months of age are eligible for a free hearing screening if they did not receive one at birth in the hospital.

West Nile virus has been present in Ontario since 2002 and the incidence of Lyme disease has been increasing steadily in Ontario over the past several years.  Vector  and host migration patterns, global warming, and human behaviours each play a part in the spread of these illnesses. Learn some basic precautions you can take to reduce the risk that you and your family might be exposed to these vectors and acquire these illnesses.

The Durham Infant Hearing Screening Clinic is hosted by the Tri-Regional Infant Hearing Program in partnership with the Whitby Public Library.  Babies up to four months of age are eligible for a free hearing screening if they did not receive one at birth in the hospital.

The Durham Infant Hearing Screening Clinic is hosted by the Tri-Regional Infant Hearing Program in partnership with the Whitby Public Library.  Babies up to four months of age are eligible for a free hearing screening if they did not receive one at birth in the hospital.
