Teen Advisory Group at Central
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Join us for our final meeting of the spring! TAG will resume once again in September. Stay tuned for what's happening for teens this summer.

Do you want to meet other teens, contribute to library services and programs, and earn community service hours? The Whitby Public Library is looking for members for our Teen Advisory Group (TAG).  This group will meet once a month to discuss books, programs, video games, movies, music, and more.  Participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas and help develop outstanding library services for youth.  As a TAG member, you will be able to create displays, suggest materials for purchasing, assist with special events and programs, and have a say about what goes on at your library.  TAG members will be expected to participate in the programs that they help plan.

If you are in grades 7 through 12 and would like to get involved, come out to a meeting and see what it’s all about! Meetings will take place at the Central Library on the second Thursday of every month from 4:00 - 5:00 pm.

Please note: TAG will not meet in June, July and August.

If you have any questions, please contact the Children's and Adult Fiction Department at 905 668-6531 Ext. 2010 or email askcaf@whitbylibrary.on.ca

Non-Fiction Book Club at Central
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Join us for the Non-Fiction Book Club. This month's selection is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingslover.

Bestselling author Barbara Kingsolver returns with her first nonfiction narrative that will open your eyes in a hundred new ways to an old truth: You are what you eat. With characteristic poetry and pluck, Barbara Kingsolver and her family sweep readers along on their journey away from the industrial-food pipeline to a rural life in which they vow to buy only food raised in their own neighborhood, grow it themselves, or learn to live without it. Their good-humored search yields surprising discoveries about turkey sex life and overly zealous zucchini plants, en route to a food culture that's better for the neighborhood and also better on the table. Part memoir, part journalistic investigation, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle makes a passionate case for putting the kitchen back at the center of family life and diversified farms at the center of the American diet.

All of our non-fiction book club selections are available in alternative formats (eg. audiobook). If you require an alternative format, please speak with the book club coordinator.

Registration is required. To register, click on the green button below, call 905-668-6531 x 2020 or email askreference@whitbylibrary.on.ca.

Non-Fiction Book Club at Central
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Join us for the Non-Fiction Book Club. This month's selection is Detroit: An American Autopsy by Charlie LeDuff.

Detroit: An American Autopsy is no hopeless parable. LeDuff shares an unbelievable story of a hard town in a rough time filled with some of the strangest and strongest people our country has to offer. Detroit is a dark comedy of the absurdity of American life in the twenty-first century, a deeply human drama of colossal greed and endurance, ignorance and courage.

All of our non-fiction book club selections are available in alternative formats (eg. audiobook). If you require an alternative format, please speak with the book club coordinator.
