Overview

After reading about the plight of animals after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast, I felt compelled to do something, anything. So after some research, I filled out an application with the Humane Society of the United State (HSUS). They were specifically looking for volunteers with computer experience and although I didn't know the particular application they referred to I knew I could learn the software quickly. Within a day HSUS called me and said they could use my help. So after getting a tetanus shot and loading the car with supplies I was on the road on Saturday, September 24th - destination: the Lamar-Dixon Expo center in Gonzales, Louisiana.

Check out the photos, read through the blog to see some of the highlights, and check out the stories on the HSUS web site. It was an amazing, unique experience and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to support the animal rescue operation and play a part in reuniting some wonderful people with their beloved pets.

** And a special thank you to my ever supportive husband, Ric, and my kids, Hannah and Noah, for their willingness to allow me to follow my passion and be absent from the ever-hectic home front for almost two weeks!

Ongoing Efforts

As of January, 2006, many animals in New Orleans are still homeless, hungry and roaming the streets. Dedicated volunteers continue to help. Read about it at Animal Rescue New Orleans
