Booklegger Volunteer Orientation

Become a Castro Valley Booklegger!

Orientation Meeting: Tuesday, April 10, 10:30 am to 11:30 am

Meet Your Jewish Neighbor

Meet Your Jewish Neighbor

Saturday, April 28

2 pm to 4 pm

Find out more about your Jewish neighbors at a forum of some of the leaders of our local Jewish community.  Where did the Jews come from?  What do they believe?  Why are they in the news so much?  And most importantly, what is the real origin of the bagel?

Our panelists include:

Rabbi Harry Manhoff, spiritual leader of Temple Beth Sholom in San Leandro, lecturer at St. Mary's College in Moraga, and author of A Place in the Tent; Intermarriage and Conservative Judaism.

Samuel Klein, Rabbinic student, Hebrew Union College, and currently rabbinic intern at Congregation Shir Ami in Castro Valley.

Jamie Ireland, Madrika, or leader, of the Tri-Valley Cultural Jews, bilingual teacher, and Castro Valley resident.

Shayna Gelender, a leader of "Bend the Arc, a Jewish partnership for Justice;" also managing director of the ACLU of Northern California, a graduate of Castro Valley High School, Mills College, and bat mitzvah of Congregation Shir Ami.

We invite you to come and listen, ask questions, and learn with these knowledgeable community leaders.
