Letter Writing Workshop for Kids

Image result for kids writing

Letter-writing has long been used to connect with new people, re-connect with friends or family, and to keep in touch with loved ones. Children, especially, can benefit from such an activity. Writing to others helps kids with literacy, social skills, and empathy. Plus, there are few things as exciting for a child than receiving a response in the mail; an envelope with their name on it and a note inside written just for them.

During this activity, children 5 and up will have the opportunity to write several short notes or letters to people they want to connect with (such as teachers, extended family, friends). Parents are welcome, and encouraged, to help by transcribing for children who are unable to write for themselves. Each child will receive notecards and envelopes to send to the people in their lives, as well as stickers to decorate as they wish.

Please bring your own postage stamps (50 cents each at the post office or some grocery stores).

The activity is limited to 20 children (children should be accompanied by an adult).

This event is sponsored by FUN Mothers’ ClubSakura of America, and the Write-On Campaign.

Letter Writing Workshop for Adults

Image result for letter writing

Letter-writing has long been used to connect with new people, re-connect with friends or family, and to keep in touch with loved ones. Although cell phones and computers make it easier and faster to talk to people, there will always be something special about sending and receiving a note or letter in the mail. Writing and sending a note lets the recipient know that you care enough to take a little extra time to put pen to paper, find a stamp, and pop the envelope in the mail.

Please join us for an afternoon of writing notes or letters to people you want to connect to in some way (such as co-workers, extended family, friends). Whether it’s a simple “hello” or a deeply-felt “thank you,” writing and sending a note in the mail can be the perfect way to start a conversation or keep one going. If you need help or ideas on how to write your letter, feel free to ask for help from the activity coordinators at the event. There will also be reference books available to look through for inspiration and format guidelines.

This event is for ages 16+. Notecards, envelopes, and writing tools will all be provided for participants. Please bring your own postage stamps (50 cents each at the post office or some grocery stores).
