Summer volunteering opportunity for incoming 7th - 9th graders! 

The Fremont Main Library Children's Department is looking for Kid Power volunteers to help with our Summer Reading Game and special summer events. This volunteer opportunity is open to kids going into 7th-9th grades next school year. Have fun and earn service hours too! 

The Kid Power Volunteer program runs from June 11 - August 19, 2018. Kid Power Volunteers who work at least 10 hours during the summer are invited to an end of the summer volunteer party.

Guitar Lessons for Beginners - Class is Full and Closed

 

Come and learn guitar lessons with Sai Monish and Yash, two enthusastic high school students, for 8 weeks!  This is a class for children who want to develop or pursue an interest in playing the guitar.  You will learn the basics of guitar and a song at the end of these 8 weeks.

This class is for student 8 - 12 years old.

Having a guitar at the class and continuous attendance are required.  Bring your own guitar if you have one, or contact Sai (tsaimonish@gmail.com) or Yash (yagrawa124@gmail.com) for places you can rent at a minimum fee.

Summer Reading Game Volunteer Orientation

The Summer Squad program is a good way for you to serve the public and to fulfill volunteering hours for school. Students in grades K-12 are invited to get homework help from teen volunteers at the Union City Library in our after-school Homework Center program. Help is available for all subject areas. Homework Center is open Monday - Thursdays from mid September through early June. The program is closed on school holidays (as per the New Haven Unified School District Schedule) and on County holidays. 

Homework Center is supervised by an adult coordinator and the program allows high school students to earn Community Service Credit while helping other students. 

A completed registration is REQUIRED before students can attend Homework Center. Registration forms are available at the Reference Desk. Students can sign up for help starting at 3:45 and our volunteers can assist 3 students at a time.

Kid Power Orientation

Kid Power Orientation

Are you going into 6th, 7th, or 8th grade next fall? Sign up to be a Kid Power Volunteer this summer at the Castro Valley Library!

The Kid Power program is a good way for you to serve the public and to fulfill volunteering hours for school.  At the same time you will develop work skills and experience. A Kid Power Volunteer’s primary duty is to help kids play the Summer Reading Game.  Volunteers may also help with special programs and perform other duties as time and interest allow. Volunteers who complete 8 hours will receive a reward at the end of the summer!

Summer volunteering opportunity for incoming 7th - 9th graders! 

The Fremont Main Library Children's Department is looking for Kid Power volunteers to help with our Summer Reading Game and special summer events. This volunteer opportunity is open to kids going into 7th-9th grades next school year. Have fun and earn service hours too!

Many of us worry about the future or dwell upon the past. Our mind is constantly wandering. In this program, Dr. Manish Saggar, an Asst. Professor in the department of Psychiatry, Stanford University School of Medicine and long-time meditator, will explore why such a downtime is important not just for the brain, but all the way down to individual cells. He will also discuss the role of downtime in everyday life and its ability to enhance our happiness on an individual level. There will be a short meditation sitting as well.

Learn to sew using a sewing machine. All materials and equipment are supplied for your first project, a drawstring bag. After that, you may work on a project of your own. The library has some fabric available for students. 

Registration is required. Space is limited because the library has only 8 sewing machines. When you register, please include whether you are bringing your own sewing machine.

Join practical-mystic, Amber Jayanti to play this fun-filled, educational tarot board game designed to open participants both to problem solving and learning the basics of the Qabalistic Tarot's Ageless Wisdom.  Beginners only, group size limited to 9.
 
Amber is the author of "Tarot for Dummies, "Living the Qabalistic Tarot," and "Principles of Qabalah" and founder of the International School for Tarot & Qabalah Study in 1975.

Kid Power Orientation

Are you going into 6th, 7th, or 8th grade next fall? Sign up to be a Kid Power Volunteer this summer at the Castro Valley Library!

The Kid Power program is a good way for you to serve the public and to fulfill volunteering hours for school.  At the same time you will develop work skills and experience. A Kid Power Volunteer’s primary duty is to help kids play the Summer Reading Game.  Volunteers may also help with special programs and perform other duties as time and interest allow. Volunteers who complete 8 hours will receive a reward at the end of the summer!

All interested Kid Power volunteers must attend one of the following orientation sessions:

Wednesday, May 30th, 4:00-5:00

Saturday, June 2nd, 3:00-4:00

Tuesday, June 5th, 7:00-8:00

At these orientations, volunteers will learn the rules of the Summer Reading Game, volunteering expectations, and hand in their complete Kid Power forms.

Registration required. Registration will begin May 1st. Visit the children's desk at the Castro Valley Library to register, or call for more information. Be sure to pick up your Kid Power application packet when you register - it must be handed in with a parent's signature at orientation!
