Long Island's White Shark Research

Come meet Chris Paparo, The Fish Guy, when he gives a presenation about Long Island's White Sharks.
Long Island's coastal waters have an abundance of sharks, all of which we know very little about.
In 2015, a small group of researchers were the first to deploy a satellite tag on a juvenile great white shark off the south shore of LI.
Over the subsequent 2 summers, a partnership with OCEARCH enabled them to tag an additional 20 white sharks off Montauk.
Learn about the continued work of the Shark Research and Education Program of the South Fork Natural History Museum.

Please let us know in advance if you will need an accommodation that will make this event accessible to you.

The mystery book being discussed tonight will be A Shimmer of Hummingbirds by Steve Burrows.

Newly appointed police inspector Domenic Jejeune doesn't mind ruffling a few feathers.
Indeed his success has elevated him into a poster boy for the police.
The problem is Jejeune doesn't really want to be a detective at all; he much prefers watching birds.

All are welcome at this scintillating discussion group about new places where murder and mayhem occur.

Science Fiction Book Group

The Science Fiction book being discussed tonight will be DUNE by Frank Herbert.

Set in the distant future amidst a feudal interstellar society in which noble houses, in control of individual planets,
owe allegiance to the Padishah Emperor. Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides,
whose noble family accepts the stewardship of the desert planet Arrakis.
This planet is the only source of the spice 'melange', the most important and valuable substance in the universe,
control of Arrakis is coveted. The story explores the multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion,
as the factions confront each other in a struggle for the control of Arrakis and its spice.

The Science Fiction Book Group meets the second Tuesday of every month.
Enjoy a fascinating discussion. All are welcome.

5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
Writers' Critique Group

Please bring in any writing material and/or the ideas you are working on.
Together we will work towards bringing your goals to fruition.
Most sessions will allow time to  read from what you have written and analyze it with your peers.

We also look forward to periodically having guest speakers who will enhance the writing experience.

The Library Writers' Critique Group will meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month all year long.
