Winter Reading Challenge

The Baldwin Library invites children, teens, and adults to participate in our 2022 Winter Reading Challenge! Winter Reading Challenge will begin Monday, January 3rd and will run through Thursday, March 31st.

Children and Teens: Read 15 minutes for at least 15 days of the month. The library will provide each reader with a fun, interactive log to fill in for each reading session. Fully completed logs can be turned in during the last week of each month, and each child/teen will be entered to win one of three monthly prizes!

Adults: A reading slip will be completed for each title read and entered in our monthly prize drawing for a chance to win a local gift card.

Book Cooks
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Young chefs of any age can join us for a monthly make-from-scratch cooking/baking program with a focus on delicious recipes, family time and fun! We'll even read a related story at the conclusion of the program! This program increases children's math, problem solving, vocabulary and literacy skills, all while expanding their culinary curiosity by cooking alongside an adult. January's program will be held via Zoom since will will all need to use our stoves. Registration required. A Zoom link will be sent to you prior to the program.

January's cooking theme: Better Breakfasts! Our recipe will be Easy Breakfast Pizza

Ingredients to have on hand: (1) 13.8 oz tube refrigerated pizza crust, olive oil, 8 eggs, milk, 6 pieces of bacon (or subtitutution of your choice), 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, or cheese of your choice), any vegetables of your choice (tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, etc.) salt and pepper

Kitchen supplies needed: sheet pan, rolling pin, pastry brush, small bowl, medium bowl, whisk, measuring cups, measuring spoons, medium skillet, large spoon

Stampin' Up Card Making
7:00 PM

Adults can join local crafter Janet for a fun and creative night of card making! Step-by-step instructions will be provided in addition to having the flexibility to add your own creative flair! Everyone will be making one birthday and one Valentine card while learning different and creative ways to use stamps and paper!

Yoga with Candace for Adults

Registration:  Yes

Location:  Program room - Indoor programs require a mask.

Ages:  18+

Cost:  $5 paid to Candace

Relax and stretch with Candace, a seasoned Yoga instructor.  She will be teaching all levels of yoga for 8 weeks (January 10 - February 28).

Registration is required as space is limited to 10 participants.  Please bring a yoga mat or towel.  Registration is required for each session!

Take and Make Shapes Snowman

Children ages 2-5 can stop in and pick up a take-and-make Shapes Snowman kit. Just stop into the library and pick up a kit at the front desk- no registration required.

Cozy Corner Storytime

Join us in the Discovery Center for Cozy Corner Storytime where we will read about colors, numbers and shapes! Oh My! A Concepts themed Fun 20 minute together time! See what color we will be wearing and singing about each week.  Be there or "Be Square!" Registration and masks required.

Picture Book Children's Choice Awards

Join us each month via YouTube/Facebook as members of our library staff read one of the six nominated books in this year’s Picture Book Children’s Choice Awards. Two books will be featured each month, with voting taking place in March...March Madness style! Videos are not livestreamed, so can be viewed any time.

Art with a Heart

Students in grades K-12 are invited to join us for our Art with a Heart event. Participants will be given paper and various art supplies to create paintings to be showcased by UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Shadyside hospitals in prominent locations throughout the hospital. Patients, visitors and employees will enjoy the beauty of the artwork while highlighting the creativity of our community’s children. Registration and masks required.

Middle Grade Sculpting

Students in grades 4-6 are invited to join us monthly for a sculpting class using various materials, such as wire and clay, as well as various techniques taught by our locals artist Michelle! All materials will be provided.

Bouncing Babies and Books

Bring your baby (ages 0-2) to our morning storytime featuring stories, fun and engaging songs, rhymes, music and bubbles to conclude our program! Each registered family will receive their own book, musical instruments and rhyme and sing card to use during the program. All program supplies will be thoroughly cleaned for safe use. Return the supplies at the conclusion of the program and keep the rhyme and sing card to add to your collection! Please register for each session.

Teen Paint Night

Teen Take or Make Craft

They’re back! Teens in Grades 6-12 can stop in the library to stay and make a craft here OR pick up a “to go” craft kit, complete with all of the supplies and instructions to make a creative teen craft! No registration required.
