Adult Make and Take Craft Kit

Try out a new project from the comfort of your own home! Each month, we will be featuring a different make and take craft for adults.

This month's craft is pressed herb candles. Kits include instructions, wax, pressed herbs, and wick. Registration is required to reserve a kit.

Ladies Pamper and Paint Night
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

We may not be able to get together in person, but the Ladies Paint Night tradition continues online! Join local artist Michelle in a virtual paint night class via Zoom as she teaches us step-by-step instructions to create a memorable art project ! Simply register, and we will send you a Zoom link the day before the program.  Then sit back, enjoy a beverage and the online company as we paint together!

Project: Fall Canvas Bird

Supplies List:

  • 2 flat brushes (1 small, 1 medium)
  • 2 round brushes (1 small, size 0, 1 or 2; 1 medium, size 6, 8 or 10)
  • A photo of your bird of choice
  • Acrylic paint colors of your choice - if going with fall colors, we suggest orange, yellow, brown, black, blue, yellow and green
  • Ultra fine point Sharpie
  • Canvas of your choice, either 9x12 or 12x12

A Walk in South Park - Cancelled!

Picture Book Children's Choice

We are bringing our annual Picture Book Children's Choice event to your child! We will read one book each month (October through February) on our Facebook page, along with a related activity.  In March everyone will have the opportunity to let their voice be heard by voting for their favorite book from the five selected titles! No registration required!

This year's book titles include Because, Big Boys CryThe Hundred-Year Barn, Lubna and Pebble and When Grandma Gives You A Lemon Tree

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

We are on the road to helping your child read 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! Each month, you can stop by the library (inside or curbside) and pick up a literacy kit filled with everything you need to get started on your child's road to reading! Then join us on Facebook as you use the items contained in the literacy kit to follow along with this early literacy program! One book, one rhyme, one song, one craft and one activity all to help your child become a life-long reader! Please register individually for each program to reserve a literacy kit for pickup! 

Items contained in literacy kit: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten folder/supplies/parent guide (if you didn't receive one in September), FREE book, laminated literacy card, craft, musical scarf, and activity sheet

Join instructor Leah via Zoom Video for a 30-minute yoga class incorporating asana, breath work and a short meditation. Sessions are geared to students entering 6th-12th grade. Please wear comfortable clothing and have a yoga mat or towel and water available. Book Cooks

Young chefs of any age can join us via Zoom for a monthly make-from-scratch cooking program with a focus on fun foods and a related story at the conclusion of the program. This program increases children's math, problem solving, vocabulary and literacy skills, while tying in chemistry, science and geography. Register online for each program your child will be attending, and a Zoom link will be emailed prior to the program.

October 21 recipe: Lemon Yogurt Cake
 
Supplies needed for program: loaf pan, parchment paper, small bowl and medium bowl, measuring spoons, stand or hand mixer, wooden spoon, lemon zester if you have one
 
Ingredients needed for program:
  • (2) 6-oz lemon yogurt (NOT Greek yogurt) - example is Trader Joe's organic lemon french country style yogurt, but any lemon yogurt is good!
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 oz sugar
  • 5 oz vegetable oil
  • 24 oz flour
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 lemon
  • Chocolate chips, fresh or frozen berries, etc. (optional)

Paint Your Own Halloween Face Mask

Creepy Crawly Cruise-Up - 2:00 PM SESSION!!
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

While we are unable to hold our Creepy Crawly Cafe indoor event this year, we have taken our popular annual Halloween event outdoors for Creepy Crawly Cruise-Up!

Pack up your family and drive to the parking lot behind the library (near Leland ballfields). Each family will receive a pre-packaged Halloween activity bag to use during the event and to keep! Staff and special guests will rotate every 10 minutes to provide Halloween fun and activities (no food) for your family while you remain at your vehicle! 

To adhere to safety and social distance guidelines, all cars will park every other parking space and can view activities either from the back of your vehicle or by sitting directly in front of your vehicle.  All family members over the age of 2 MUST wear a mask during this event.

  • Space is limited to 25 vehicles per session!
  • Cost is $10.00 per car - please bring exact change as no change will be given
  • There is a 2:00 pm and a 5:00 pm session! Please only register for ONE of the sessions beginning Friday, October 9 at 10:00 am. Register either online, in person, or by calling the library at 412-885-2255.
  • Each family must register individually.
  • Thank you to our friends at Heritage Hospice for providing candy for our guests!

*In lieu of our annual Pumpkin Decorating contest voting, we ask that you decorate your car for Halloween! Three families with the most votes on their decorated car will win a special prize!
