Reading Is Snow Much Fun Winter Reading Club

Cooking Class, Easy Meals: Spaghetti and Meatballs

Overwhelmed by the kitchen?  Need help making a meal on a budget? 

Join this basic cooking class, where you'll learn simple cooking skills and tricks.  Tracy will show you how to cook a hearty meal, for under $10.  Each participant will cook alongside Tracy, and be given step by step recipes. They'll even get to leave with their very own ready to eat dinner, cooked right in the library!

Note: This class is for adults 17 years and older.  It is intended to help beginners learn cooking basics to eat healthy on a budget. Hot plates and other kitchen utensils will be used during class.

Paws for a Cause with Animal Friends

We welcome Animal Friends back to the library for our winter/spring program lineup! Children will have the opportunity to meet and read aloud to an approved literacy dog, hear stories and participate in a literacy activity.  Readers of all ages and abilities are welcomed! Because all visits are on a volunteer basis, we ask all participants to bring along one item from the Animal Friends Supply Drive list which can be found here.

Women's Self Defense Training

The Library is partnering with the Baldwin Police Department and Jeff Osinski of PKA Karate Academy to offer a special two-hour self-defense course for women.

The training is for any women 18+, and will  be held at the PKA Karate studio.

The cost is $20 per person.  Participants should dress comfortably, socks or bare feet.  Please no tight clothing or jeans. All participants will be required to sign a waiver to take part in the class.

This class has been designed for adults only.  Please do not register any child under the age of 18. You will not be considered fully registered until you pay your $20 fee at the library.  This class is in high demand and has a limit.

HERMISSION: Build Chairs and paint our picnic tables

As part of National Women's Month, 3rd Platoon from Mission Continues, will hosting a female led service project with the Baldwin Library. We will building Adirondack chairs, filling and building garden boxes, and building a rabbit fence.  

The community project is to paint our picnic benches!  Last September, we painted a beautiful fence and built picnic tables.  This March we're painting the picnic tables to match!  Come get creative and leave your mark on the Baldwin Library.

All ages/abilities and men are welcome! Breakfast lunch will be provided.

Accessibility Information: The library itself is accessible and has accessible bathrooms. Our project will take place outside on the sidewalk and grass. There will be uneven surfaces.

Babysitter/First Aid/CPR/AED Training

Every Heartbeat Counts Services (former American Red Cross trainers) will host a Babysitter/First Aid/CPR/AED training course for pre-teens/teens ages 11-16 on Saturday, March 28 from 11am-4pm at the Baldwin Borough Public Library. The course helps participants learn the responsibilities of babysitting, teaches how to keep themselves and others safe, how to manage behavior during babysitting and teaches infant and child first aid and CPR/AED.
 
Cost of the training is $80/person and includes a take-home training handbook, emergency reference guide, CD and wallet-sized certification card.
 
There will be one 30-minute lunch break, and participants should bring a lunch.  Registration is required and is limited to 20 students.  Registration is available beginning February 15, either online or by calling the library at 412-885-2255.  Payment is due prior to the training via cash or check payable to Shauntaya Hester.
