Reading Is Snow Much Fun Winter Reading Club

Winter Reading Club is free and simple! Just stop into the library to register and pick up a Winter Reading Bingo sheet.  For each 5-in-a-row Bingo, you will earn one ticket to be entered for a chance to win prizes or gift cards! Winter Reading Club runs from January 13 - March 13.

Kindergarten Registration Special Day
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

If your child is entering kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year, and you have not yet registered your child online, or need help registering your child online, visit the library on Sunday, March 8 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. District personnel will be at the library to assist you and answer any questions you may have. An interpreter will also be present for anyone needing assistance.

IN ADDITION, if you choose, you may also complete the second step of the registration process that day as well. If you choose to complete step 2, you will need to bring along with you: your child's immunization records (if you don't have them, please obtain a copy from your child's doctor); your child's birth, baptismal or hospital certificate; your proof of residency (deed or lease agreement) and two of the following documents: current utility bill (not cell phone), current credit card bill, property tax bill, income tax return, or current bank statement. Effective January 1, 2018, all children are required to have their blood lead level tested prior to entry into Kindergarten or before they are six years old, whichever is sooner. Proof must be provided.

Senator Brewster's Office: Public Office Hours

Representatives from State Senator Jim Brewster's office are holing public office hours every month at the library. They are here to offer state services, such as help with applications for public benefits, the new applications for the Allegheny County Port Authority Senior Citizen ConnectCards, Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications, help with finding unclaimed property with the Department of Treasury, PennDOT, Revenue, and so much more.

Cooking Class, Easy Meals: Spaghetti and Meatballs Cancelled

Overwhelmed by the kitchen?  Need help making a meal on a budget? 

Join this basic cooking class, where you'll learn simple cooking skills and tricks.  Tracy will show you how to cook a hearty meal, for under $10.  Each participant will cook alongside Tracy, and be given step by step recipes. They'll even get to leave with their very own ready to eat dinner, cooked right in the library!

Note: This class is for adults 17 years and older.  It is intended to help beginners learn cooking basics to eat healthy on a budget. Hot plates and other kitchen utensils will be used during class.

Paws for a Cause with Animal Friends - CANCELLED

From Animal Friends: At this time, all Animal Friends / Therapets Literacy Services are suspended: all on-site and off-site Literacy Services /Therapeutic classroom visits are cancelled. The decision to suspend all services is being made out of extreme caution and respect for our work with the elderly population and children. 
 
 
 
We welcome Animal Friends back to the library for our winter/spring program lineup! Children will have the opportunity to meet and read aloud to an approved literacy dog, hear stories and participate in a literacy activity.  Readers of all ages and abilities are welcomed! Because all visits are on a volunteer basis, we ask all participants to bring along one item from the Animal Friends Supply Drive list which can be found here.

Saturdays at 11:00 am, January 18, February 8, March 14 and April 5 (as part of our Annual Egg Hunt program)

Women's Self Defense Training

The Library is partnering with the Baldwin Police Department and Jeff Osinski of PKA Karate Academy to offer a special two-hour self-defense course for women.

The training is for any women 18+, and will  be held at the PKA Karate studio.

The cost is $20 per person.  Participants should dress comfortably, socks or bare feet.  Please no tight clothing or jeans. All participants will be required to sign a waiver to take part in the class.

This class has been designed for adults only.  Please do not register any child under the age of 18. You will not be considered fully registered until you pay your $20 fee at the library.  This class is in high demand and has a limit.
