Monday Morning Moms

We are happy to announce the formation of our first caregiver/child playgroup for children birth-3 years! We will meet once a month, participate in a take-home project along with a lot of play time with our new sand and water table, as well as fun learning, building and educational toys.  It’s a great way to socialize, meet new caregivers and for your child to meet new friends! Maternal and Child Health Services - CANCELLED

Nancy Scopelitis, Public Health Nurse from the Allegheny County Health Department, will present various programs that are available for free to families, regardless of income level, during pregnancy and one to two years after birth. A visiting nurse will meet with both mother and child to assess that the pregnancy is proceeding well and any questions are answered. This program is for families, grandparents, relatives and friends. This has been cancelled.

Library Board of Trustees Meeting

Members of the Baldwin Board of Trustees are volunteers who donate their time and service to the library and it’s role in the community. The Board sets policy, fiscal goals and strategic direction in support of the Library’s mission and vision.

Baldwin Borough Public Library's Board of Trustees is composed of seven citizens of the community, appointed by Baldwin Borough Council. They serve 3-year terms and may be reappointed. The Board meets monthly at 7pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Library and all meetings are open to the public.

Preschool Story Alphabet Explorers

Baldwin Community Star Party

Presented by The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh

A family astronomy presentation followed by guided viewing of the wonders of the night sky through telescopes owned by AAAP volunteer members.  Bring your own binoculars if you have them! Many night sky objects can be seen through 10x50 binoculars! Some of the evening viewing objects through telescopes will include the Crescent Moon (including craters, mountains and empty sea beds), Saturn (with its rings will be visible in the Southern sky) and the Summer Triangle (the triangle formed by the stars Vega, Deneb and Altair) and more! A great educational experience for all ages! This event will be held at the library.  Registration required.

Beginner Flute Lessons

As a continuation of our introductory KinderFlute classes, we will be offering beginner flute lessons to children ages 4-9! Group lessons are a great way to get a jump start with music through fun games and learning with friends. Music theory and playing the flute will be taught with KinderFlute teacher in training Katie Shesko. This is a four-week session for only $30! There is also a pay-as-you-go option available for $9/class.  If interest is high, we will continue beyond the initial four-week session.  There is a maximum of 12 students per class. Registration required. If registering for the 4-week session, you only need register ONCE on the Sept. 23 date.  If registering for pay-as-you-go, please register for each individual Saturday. Payment due before or at first class by cash, check or credit card. Options for the instrument include: rent to own through our certified instructor (please let us know if this is your option so that your flute can be here in time), bringing your own flue, or borrowing a flute during class time (only a few available).

Paws for a Cause with Animal Friends

We welcome Animal Friends back to the library for our fall program lineup! Children will have the opportunity to meet and read aloud to an approved literacy cat or dog, hear stories and participate in a literacy activity.  Readers of all ages and abilities are welcomed! Because all visits are on a volunteer basis, we ask all participants to bring along one item from the Animal Friends Supply Drive list which can be found here.  Registration required.

Local Author Book Talk - Dan J. Kirk

Meet local author Dan J. Kirk, who recently published a fascinating book of fiction, entitled Between the Innings, set in Cooperstown, NY. His characters bond through the game of baseball, and the story includes a riveting mystery. It crackles with the intensity of a high fastball and serves as an ode to the sport of baseball itself. Copies of Dan’s book will be available for purchase.  Light refreshments will be served. Registration is not required.
