Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson tells the story of formerly inseparable siblings after a decade of estrangement who reunite after their mother Eleanor’s death and the reading of her will. There, they learn some painful revelations about their mother’s past, which was filled with hardship, sorrow, heartache, and tragedy. Later, they share black cake from an old family recipe, traditionally meant to be consumed on special occasions. Black Cake is author Charmaine Wilkerson’s debut novel. Discussion leader: Library Assistant Director Kaysha Watson-Phillips.
