Themed creative-writing workshop, with Irish poet Anne-Marie Fyfe:  $30.00, book via PayPal on  www.annemariefyfe.com

~~Discover the creative power of raging seas, of Force-9s & undercurrents, of tidal pull, hidden depths, unknown treasures, & uncertain homecomings; of the sense (literal, metaphorical, emotional...) of stepping off terra firma into the unknown, the elemental, the unfathomable. Not just writing poetry, fiction, & memoir about seaside days & safe harbours, but the real oceanic deal, the seven seas that cover two-thirds of our world’s surface. Join us & experience the creativity of Anne-Marie Fyfe's themed workshops where tasks & talk, led exercises & sources of inspiration (from literature, the visual arts & a much wider world) will fire your writing & have you producing real results in terms of finished works & new drafts (& a head fizzing with new ideas, new directions!) ... as well as time for read-back to, & positive feed-back from, energised fellow-poets. Plus advice on being your own best critic, on editing your work, & workshopping with fellow writers.  Writers also have the opportunity of reading as part of Anne-Marie's afternoon performance, The Voyage Out.

Historic Fort George Disputed Territory 1779-1783 - workshops and presentations
12:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Fort George in Castine, Maine is on the National Register of Historic Places due to the important role it played in the American Revolution.  Now only earthen works show its impressive footprint and the Friends of Castine Fortifications group is working on bringing more prominence to the fascinating history of Fort George.  The Bangor Public Library and the Friends of Fort George Fortifications are pleased to promote the work done at this historic site and of the encampment weekend on September 8 and 9, 2018.

This afternoon session provides ample time to see the impressive displays of every-day life of a 74th Highland soldier and his family stationed at Fort George in today's Castine between 1779 and 1783.

What kind of food was available? How was clothing constructed?  How do we know what life was like?

Join us for answers to these questions. Ask your own questions of the presenters. Enjoy the displays and participate in the presentation and the handiwork. Taste the food that was known and available during the time period.

12:30 - 3:00  Displays of materials for clothing and finished garments. Food rations displays for Scottish and Colonial Patriot soldiers, food and drinking vessels, Military kit for a Scottish Private soldier, timeline of Scottish military presence at Fort George and more.
