Classic Films- Preston Sturges

Preston Sturges was not a good student, didn’t like to read, never went to college, and het by the time he was in his 40s, he had changed the course of Hollywood history. Between 1940 to 1944 Preston Sturges wrote and directed a streak of hits populated with zany characters, witty dialogue and a subversive sense of humor that somehow got past the Production Code. At each session, we will be watching one of those hit films. Ms DiVerdi, a classic film columnist, will talk about the films, the times and the larger-than-life personality and talent of Preston Sturges. Please call for specific titles.

Honeybees

In this talk I will go over a “Year in the Life of a Honey Bee Hive.” From the time the queen starts laying eggs in February to the time she stops laying eggs in November, the hive is constantly “buzzing” with activity. We will discuss the three different types of bees in the hive and their responsibilities. We will also discuss the never ending threats to Honey Bees as well as the treatment methods used to help control the threats. Bears, Raccoons and Skunks are threats to Honey Bee hives that we will also discuss. From the outside a Honey Bee Hive looks like a simple wooden box, but the inside is anything but simple.

There will be a honey tasting as well.

Collaborative Art Project for Adults and Teens

All week long, April 24-27!  photo of a letter collage

Stop by our pop-up art station on the main floor and share in the creation of a paper and wood collage of letters. Choose backgrounds and letters from recycled magazines and glue them to wooden shapes. We will then attach those to a board to make a final masterpiece which will be on display in the Annual Arts & Crafts Exhibit in May.
