Virtual Intermediate Chess Club

Virtual Intermediate Chess

We're starting an INTERMEDIATE class for those children who have previous chess experience.  This more advanced class meets every other Tuesday (this is the alternative week from the beginner chess program).  Class is limited to 15 children. 

Kids in 1st through 5th grade are invited to join this virtual chess class taught by Chess Coach Joe for teamdigusa.com . 

In this Intermediate level class, the students will learn about more advanced tactics/strategies along with openings and end game theory.

The professional chess coach from DIG USA will teach for half of the class and then the students will play each other on Chess.com for the second half of the class. The chess coach will watch the matches and analyse the students strengths and weaknesses so that the students know how to improve every game.

Students must create a Chess.com username prior to the start of class (no fee is required).  To become more comfortable with more comfortable with Chess.com please view this video before our first class.

Coach Joe Lessard was born in Springfield, MA and has played chess for most of his life. His current USCF Rating is 1524. Coach Joe graduated from Western New England University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Virtual Beginner Chess

Tween Graphic Novel Book Club
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Like Comics? Come and talk about it in this virtual program for grades 4-7. Each month we will discuss an exciting graphic novel and do some fun activities based on the Book! This Month’s book is Wings of Fire Book One: The Dragonet Prophecy by Tui T. Sutherland. Registration is limited to eight children/ session.

How to participate: 

1) Sign up for the program.

2) Call the Bethel Public Library to arrange a curbside pickup to check out the book and pick up and activity packet. 

3) Read the book.

3) Join us on Zoom on Wednesday 3/11 at 6:30 and join us for a fun virtual book discussion! Zoom Links are sent out 15 minutes before the program.
