Looking for an opportunity to cool off and learn about local streams? Then, this program is for you! This program will be led by Rangers in the Allegheny Park system on site and is specifically designed for children going into 5th through 8th grades. Participants will meet at Grant Grove Shelter in South Park and will get to discover the different macroinvertebrates that live in our streams. Macroinvertebrates are the decomposers that live in waterways and keep the streams clean, while also providing a valuable food source for many fish and birds. Participate in a stream study, collecting and identifying many of these species while learning about how water quality affects these species and how they are used as water quality indicators. Participants will be in the water collecting species – appropriate clothing/footwear required. Registration is required for this event.
