A Man is Not a Plan: Success Strategies for Independent Women

featuring Speaker and Author Mary Grace Musuneggi

At the age of 25, as a widow with a nine-month old son, Mary Grace Musuneggi became keenly aware that Cinderella was a fairy tale and her salary as a parochial school teacher would never be enough to realize her goal of owning a home. Mary Grace decided to take charge of her situation and carve out the abundant life she wanted for herself and her son.

The story of her journey to become the first female agent in an insurance firm, to that firm’s first female financial planner, to Chairman & CEO of her own successful firm is filled with anecdotes, humor, and practical advice. A Man is Not a Plan is about finding the courage to be CEO of your own life, whether a man is in it or not.

Mary Grace’s talk will be followed by a book signing.

Joe Negri's Mass of Hope
7:30 PM - 10:00 PM

UPMC Health Plan presents:
Joe Negri’s Mass of Hope

Saturday, October 7, 7:30 pm

Revered guitarist and beloved Pittsburgh icon Joe Negri returns to the Music Hall on October 7 to perform his Mass of Hope featuring the Bach Choir under the direction of Thomas Douglas. Now in his 10th decade, Negri began developing his Mass in the mid-1960’s, incorporating typical jazz styles with harmonies and syncopations, bringing the classic liturgy to life. In a Post-Gazette interview, Negri commented, "If you like popular music or jazz, I think you will get a lot out of it...Parts of it can even get you off your feet a little bit and get you clapping your hands."

2nd Saturday Civil War Lecture Series
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Slavery and the Underground Railroad in South Central Pennsylvania. Speaker is Cooper Wingert.

The story of slavery in Pennsylvania is seldom told. The institution lingered in some regions of the commonwealth for more than fifty years after the state's 1780 Gradual Abolition. Gradually, antislavery views prevailed. In South Central Pennsylvania, the Appalachian Mountains and the Susquehanna River provided natural cover for fleeing slaves, causing an influx of travel along the Underground Railroad. Historian and author Cooper Wingert reveals the struggles between slavery and abolition in South Central Pennsylvania.

Cooper Wingert is the author of 10 books and numerous articles, and the winner of the 2012 Dr. James I. Robertson, Jr. Literary Award. He is currently a student at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa.

Light refreshments served. Registration not required. Free and open to the public. 2nd Saturday Lecture Series made possible by the Massey Charitable Trust.
