Job Search Seminar: Resumes and Cover Letters @ Central
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Resumes don't often "get" you the job, but they're an essential tool. In this workshop you'll learn what makes an effective resume, identify some common do's and don'ts, and how to build your accomplishment stories. We'll work on these together so that your resume becomes a strong sales document. We'll also look at cover and target emails, common mistakes, and what will help your documents stand out and open the door to next steps: a phone call, meeting or interview.

The Civil Rights Kid with Ray Rickman @ Central
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

The Civil Rights Kid with Ray Rickman tells in dramatic and compelling ways of his early activism in the Civil Rights Movement. As a young student, Ray fought to integrate the Detroit public schools, leading city-wide walk-outs and bringing a federal lawsuit. As a teen, against his mother's better instincts, he participated in the March Against Fear in Mississippi with Civil Rights giant James Meredith and was jailed and beaten nearly to death for "trespassing." This exciting one-man presentation, filled with surprising humor and insight, provides a look at an America that may not be so far in the past as we think.

Free and open to the public.

Job Search Seminar: How to Search Smart
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

In this third session, we'll look at the biggest trap most job seekers fall into: relying only on advertised postings on the Internet. We'll explore the unpublished job market--as well as online postings--to see what you need to do to reach that critical decision maker or boss. A key way to find unadvertised positions is networking--one of the most misunderstood aspects of finding a job. We'll look at what it is, and what it isn't. You'll understand the key tools you need to enlist others in your search. And yes--we'll practice together.

Genealogy Research Roundup @ Central
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Are you interested in genealogy and family history? Come join others interested in genealogy for our new monthly genealogy group and learn about the resources to help you right at our library.  Whether you are a beginner or an experienced researcher, you will find ideas and and helpful tips at each meeting. Subsequent monthly sessions will revolve around a topic suggested by the group, and will consist of a brief talk by an experienced genealogist, and then an informal discussion of that topic by participants. The group will meet on the fourth Monday of every month. Join us for an interesting evening!
