Write Rhode Island 2018 Workshop for Teens @ Central

This is the first in a series of three short story writing workshops for students in grades 6-12 with writer, editor and writing teacher Kathryn Kulpa. Each workshop will have a different focus. You may attend one, two or all three of the workshops. Workshops are free but registration is advised.

Rhode Island Teen Book Award Breakfast Club @ Central
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Those in grades 9-12 are invited to join the RITBA Breakfast Club. Earn community service for participating in monthly discussions (from September to January) of books nominated for the RITBA and enjoy light breakfast fare. Join us for the first discussion on Saturday, September 30 from 11:00 am to noon. Each month will feature a discussion of a selected group of titles on a different theme. Receive one hour of community service for each book you read and discuss. In December discuss your favorites and then in January vote for your favorite book. Registration is required for the book club. The theme of this month's discussion is Growing Up and Facing Challenges. The books to be discussed are: Battlesaurus, Front Lines, Most Dangerous, Salt to the Sea, X-a novel, The Smell of Other People's Houses,  Wolf by Wolf and Burn, Baby Burn.

The Rhode Island Middle School Book Award (RIMSBA) is a new book award, specifically for Middle School students. At each meeting we'll discuss four of this year's nominees, tied to a theme. Students can read one or more book for each session. In February, members of the club will vote for their favorite title and the votes will be submitted to the state to help select the first ever winner.

The October theme is "Crime and Punishment". Visit  https://cranstonlibrary.org/rimsba-book-club for a list of this month's discussion titles. Students should read at least one book on the list before the meeting. Copies of the titles will be available at the Children's Desk for club members.

International Games Day @ Central
