Breakfast Book Club: Special Edition @ Central
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Young people in grades nine to twelve are invited to a very special edition of the Breakfast Club; featuring a discussion of The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, the book selected for this year's Reading Across Rhode Island, Rhode Island’s One Book, One State community read program. "It’s a “brave, thought-provoking, conversation-enabling novel about what prejudice looks like in the 21st century. Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she was born and raised and her private high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend”. Come share your thoughts on this powerful book involving the themes of identity, family and race. Light breakfast will be served. Participants may receive two hours or community service for reading and then discussing The Hate U Give at this program.

Please stop by the Teen Desk to pick up a free copy of the book prior to the discussion date.
