Giant Days by John Allison and Lissa Treiman

Comic Book Club is a new Cranston Central book group for adults that will celebrate comics of all kinds, from the action-packed superhero variety and graphic memoirs to Japanese manga and more!

This month we will read and discuss Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Whitney Cogar. First-year college friends Susan, Esther, and Daisy want to reinvent themselves, but in the face of hand-wringing boys, "personal experimentation," influenza, mystery-mold, nu-chauvinism, and the willful, unwanted intrusion of "academia," they may be lucky just to make it to spring alive.

For more info or to sign up please visit the Reference Desk or call 401-943-9080 x3.

Mushroom Hunting in Rhode Island
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Mushroom Hunting in Rhode Island: Fall Season presented by The Mushroom Hunting Foundation.

There are many types of mushrooms in our region.  Some are poisonous, but their ecology is fun to learn about...and others are simply delicious!  Learn about them from Ryan Bouchard and Emily Schmidt, New England's leading mushroom hunting teachers.  Using an incredible slideshow of all-local photography, they will explain the basics of wild mushroom science and safety, and the local autumn species that are considered "safe for beginners" to cook with.  This class will show you inside a whole world of adventure that most people overlook.

Ryan T. Bouchard is the author and photographer of the groundbreaking new book Gourmet Mushrooms of the Northeast 2019, copies of which will be available for purchase. Emily Schmidt also studies our local mushroom species and their nutritional values and teaches creative cooking that highlights their many unique flavors.  Together they created The Mushroom Hunting Foundation and they have educated thousands of people about safely enjoying America’s wild mushrooms.
