Fantastic Book Club - Building a Better World
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Image result for fuzzy book coverKids in Grades 3 - 7, join us for the Fantastic Book Club: Building a Better World! On the second Wednesday of the month from 4 - 5 pm, we'll discuss a different book, involving everything from compassion to robots. Be prepared for a lively discussion! Copies of each month's selected book will be available at the Youth Services Desk.

On March 8, we will discuss Fuzzy by Tom Angelberger. It's a fast-paced read that shows just how strange a place middle school can be, particularly when the new student is a state-of-the-art robot.

On April 12 we will discuss The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. In another robot story, Roz discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island with no memory of where she is from or why she is there, and her only hope of survival is to try to learn about her new environment from the island's hostile inhabitants.

On May 10, we will discuss Save Me a Seat by Sarah Weeks and Gita Varadarajan. It's the story of two boys from very different worlds. Ravi has just moved to the United States from India and has always been at the top of his class; Joe has lived in the same town his whole life and has learning problems--but when their lives intersect in the first week of fifth grade they are brought together by a common enemy (the biggest bully in their class) and the need to take control of their lives. This is the 2017 Kids Read Across Rhode Island selection. Kids will have the opportunity to meet the authors, and get a free autographed copy of the book at the kickoff event held at the RI State House on Saturday, May 13.

Registration for book club is required. Please stop by the Youth Services desk or call 401-943-9080 ext. 4 to register, or for more information.

Fantastic Book Club - Building a Better World
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Image result for wild robotKids in Grades 3 - 7, join us for the Fantastic Book Club: Building a Better World! On the second Wednesday of the month from 4 - 5 pm, we'll discuss a different book, involving everything from compassion to robots. Be prepared for a lively discussion! Copies of each month's selected book will be available at the Youth Services Desk.

Image result for save me a seatKids in Grades 3 - 7, join us for the Fantastic Book Club: Building a Better World! On the second Wednesday of the month from 4 - 5 pm, we'll discuss a different book, involving everything from compassion to robots. Be prepared for a lively discussion! Copies of each month's selected book will be available at the Youth Services Desk.

Kids will have the opportunity to meet the authors, and get a free autographed copy of the book, at the kickoff event held at the RI State House on Saturday, May 13.

Registration for book club is required. Please stop by the Youth Services desk or call 401-943-9080 ext. 4 to register, or for more information.

Reading in the Hall @ Hall
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

This month's selection is Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson. "For August, running into a long-ago friend sets in motion resonant memories and transports her to a time and a place she thought she had mislaid: 1970s Brooklyn, where friendship was everything. But beneath the hopeful promise there was another Brooklyn, a dangerous place where grown men reached for innocent girls in dark hallways, where mothers disappeared, where fathers found religion, and where madness was a mere sunset away. Woodson heartbreakingly illuminates the formative period when a child meets adulthood -- when precious innocence meets the all-too-real perils of growing up." Please call, email or visit the library to reserve your copy of the book. This program is free and open to the public.
