Rhode Island Teen Book Award Breakfast Club @ Central

Those in grades 9-12 are invited to join the RITBA Breakfast Club. Earn community service for participating in monthly discussions (from September to January) of books nominated for the RITBA and enjoy light breakfast fare. Join us for the first discussion on Saturday, September 30 from 11:00 am to noon. Each month will feature a discussion of a selected group of titles on a different theme. Receive one hour of community service for each book you read and discuss. In December discuss your favorites and then in January vote for your favorite book. Registration is required for the book club. The theme of this month's discussion is Growing Up and Facing Challenges. The books to be discussed are: Battlesaurus, Front Lines, Most Dangerous, Salt to the Sea, X-a novel, The Smell of Other People's Houses,  Wolf by Wolf and Burn, Baby Burn.

The Rhode Island Middle School Book Award (RIMSBA) is a new book award, specifically for Middle School students. At each meeting we'll discuss four of this year's nominees, tied to a theme. Students can read one or more book for each session. In February, members of the club will vote for their favorite title and the votes will be submitted to the state to help select the first ever winner.

The Learning Lounge is a time for adults to achieve their learning goals in a technology assisted environment with guidance and support from experienced teachers and librarians. Discover and use digital resources for learning and career needs while you learn with and from your peers. Receive assistance with improving your math English, and writing skills, studying for the GED, finding a job, or learning computer basics. The service is free and no appointments or reservations needed. Laptops are available to use.

Teen Team Meeting @ Central

Young people in grades 6-12 may earn community service hours by joining the Teen Team, which helps to plan teen programs and services and raises funds for the Cranston Public Library. Meetings are the first Monday of the month from 4:15-5:15. Pizza and refreshments will be served at our meetings.New members are always welcome. Join us for a morning of reading and creating at the library! This program will begin with a storytime featuring music and movement followed by craft time and coloring. Recommended for children ages 0-3.

Drop-in time where you can learn about or use the new technology we have in the C-Lab, like our 3-D printer, vinyl to MP3 Converter, or VHS to DVD converter. Or, use our laptop computers to practice what you learned in our computer classes. This time can be self-paced and independent or with assistance from a librarian. No registration required.
