The Students of Carole Berren, AWS @ Central

The students of Carole Berren  AWS will be exhibiting their watercolors, collages and drawings at the Cranston Public Library gallery from April 2 until April 28 2018.  On Sunday, April 8th there will be an opening reception from 2 – 4 PM to meet and speak with the artists.

Some of the exhibitors have been painting for less than a year.  Some have been studying for over twenty plus years.

Watercolors can be very challenging as we explore the possibilities of the medium working from representational to abstraction; dry brush to wet in wet, We do study the masters so as to gain knowledge and understanding from their trials, errors and successes.

Together we are on a journey seeking the many truths in art.  But it is always important in that journey to find and grow in our own individual voices of communication.  The possibilities are exciting

Reading Across Rhode Island in Cranston Kick-off event @ Central
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Reading Across Rhode Island, Rhode Island’s One Book, One State community read program kicks off its 16th year by inviting everyone to join in the reading of The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.

A brave, thought-provoking, conversation-enabling novel about what prejudice looks like in the 21st century. Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she was born and raised and her private high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend. Angie Thomas was born, raised, and still resides in Jackson, Mississippi. She is a former teen rapper whose greatest accomplishment was having an article about her in Right On! Magazine. She holds a BFA in creative writing and can still rap if needed. The Hate U Give is her first novel.

This event will feature a recorded video stream with author Angie Thomas, followed by a Q&A session with Reading Across Rhode Island Honorary Chair, Jordan Seaberry, Director of Public Policy and Advocacy at The Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence. Copies of The Hate U Give will be available for members of the public to borrow to participate in the Reading Across Rhode Island event. Barrington Books will also be in attendance for those who want to purchase the book.

This event will be open to the public with the Reading Across Rhode Island discussion aimed at teens and adults. There will be a discussion group held on June 4th.

Reading Across Rhode Island in Cranston The Hate U Give discussion @ Central

The Cranston Public Library will hold a discussion group for those who read The Hate U Give. The event will be guided by CPL staff with a thought provoking discussion on the societal themes brought up in the book.

This event will be open to the public with the Reading Across Rhode Island discussion aimed at teens and adults.
