ONLINE - When it comes to blended families, a common question is often how do I provide for my new spouse while still preserving my assets for my children from my previous relationship? Tax law provides benefits when transferring assets to spouses which are not available for transfers of assets to children. As a result, the tax consequences of estate planning for blended families will often inform estate planning decisions. This presentation will demonstrate the importance of good estate and tax planning for blended families. We will explore the interplay between estate, tax and family law as well as options for balancing the goals of support to a surviving spouse and preservation of assets for children from previous relationships. Hosting library: Barrie Public Library.

TIME™ Together In Movement and Exercise is a community-based program welcoming people with balance and mobility challenges to exercise. The program is designed by physiotherapists at Toronto Rehab and led by TIME™-trained fitness instructors in community centres across the country.
The TIME™ team has partnered with the Integrated Movement Disorders Program (IMDP) at the University Health Network in Toronto to pilot the new TIME-PD™ exercise program. Living Better with Parkinson’s (LBWP) is very excited to be the first to offer TIME-PD™ in Collingwood! Leaning on the expertise of the IMDP, instructors will be trained to safely adopt the TIME program for participants with Parkinson’s. This pilot program will introduce gait, balance and mobility exercises targeted at people with Parkinson’s disease. Pilot program participants will be monitored and assessed to determine participant progress and benefits.
To be eligible for the program, individuals must be able to walk at least 10 metres (30 feet), with or without a cane or walker, and do so safely without the help of another person. This is roughly the distance to cross the street in a residential neighbourhood.
Participants register for a block of classes - 10 weeks including one hour-long classes that are offered twice weekly – Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
LBWP will subsidize all costs associated with the program so, the TIME-PD™ program pilot will be free to participants. In return for this offer we ask participants who are interested in registering, to be fully committed to attend the entire program – all sessions, weather and unforeseen circumstances excepted. The TIME-PD™ program pilot will be conducted at the LBWP facility in Collingwood.
For additional information, please contact Catherine Smart at info@livingbetterwithparkinsons.ca or (705) 606-0985.

Join Collingwood Public Library virtually as they collaborate with Barrie Public Library, Ramara Public Library, Clearview Public Library, Essa Public Library, Innisfil Idea Lab and Library, Midland Public Library, New Tecumseth Public Library, Penetanguishene Public Library, Springwater Public Library and Wasaga Beach Public Library for the Simcoe Author Talk Series!
In his debut poetry collection, The Better Part of Some Time, Mike Madill traces his journey to maturity and greater self-awareness through poignant memories of his childhood, his struggle with his father’s death and how, combined with his clinical depression, he was left feeling overwhelmed how to face the world anew. Learning to embrace the darkness, however, he discovers that not only is he able to persevere, but a fresh kind of hope is borne from experiences lived far more fully since his ‘dark night of the soul’. These gritty poems will resonate with anyone who has struggled with depression, and show that, yes, the world will continue to spin, even if not as we might expect.
