TIME™ Together In Movement and Exercise is a community-based program welcoming people with balance and mobility challenges to exercise. The program is designed by physiotherapists at Toronto Rehab and led by TIME™-trained fitness instructors in community centres across the country.
The TIME™ team has partnered with the Integrated Movement Disorders Program (IMDP) at the University Health Network in Toronto to pilot the new TIME-PD™ exercise program. Living Better with Parkinson’s (LBWP) is very excited to be the first to offer TIME-PD™ in Collingwood! Leaning on the expertise of the IMDP, instructors will be trained to safely adopt the TIME program for participants with Parkinson’s. This pilot program will introduce gait, balance and mobility exercises targeted at people with Parkinson’s disease. Pilot program participants will be monitored and assessed to determine participant progress and benefits.
To be eligible for the program, individuals must be able to walk at least 10 metres (30 feet), with or without a cane or walker, and do so safely without the help of another person. This is roughly the distance to cross the street in a residential neighbourhood.
Participants register for a block of classes - 10 weeks including one hour-long classes that are offered twice weekly – Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
LBWP will subsidize all costs associated with the program so, the TIME-PD™ program pilot will be free to participants. In return for this offer we ask participants who are interested in registering, to be fully committed to attend the entire program – all sessions, weather and unforeseen circumstances excepted. The TIME-PD™ program pilot will be conducted at the LBWP facility in Collingwood.
For additional information, please contact Catherine Smart at info@livingbetterwithparkinsons.ca or (705) 606-0985.
