Living Better with Parkinson's

Tim brings a rich mix of attributes and history to his storytelling. Having been born in Texas, Tim was adopted and grew up in the State of Kansas. At the age of 25, Tim and his young wife Sheryl moved to Winnipeg, Canada, setting-out on what has proven to be a truly amazing journey. Tim earned his Registered Nurse designation in 1995 and has cared for many Parkinson’s patients throughout his career. In addition, Tim’s adopted father also had Parkinson’s Disease, which added to the deep understanding and compassion that Tim holds for people living with the disease. Tim is far too well acquainted with Parkinson’s; however, it is this close professional and personal association that brings power and poignancy to his presentations.

Tim will join the Collingwood and SGB Area Support Group on Tuesday, December 13th via Zoom. In person capacity is limited to 25 persons; however this presentation is open to everyone via Zoom.

Please note that Living Better with Parkisons will be hosting a Holiday Lunch prior to Tim's presentation. First come first serve. To confirm your attendance please email Catherine Smart at info@livingbetterwithparkinsons.ca.

Memoir Writing Workshop DAY 1 of 2

Join Donna Davey for a 2 Day Memoir Writing Workshop.

This introductory workshop concentrates on getting ideas, memories and stories, from your mind to the page. It will advocate the “Go with the flow” techniques and offer some basic tools to help you begin writing. The workshop is helpful to both experienced and beginner writers. Participants will benefit from spending time with other writers learning:

What makes a good story.
Differences between fiction and factual writing.
Helpful hints to get you started.
Overcoming Writer’s Block or Getting Stuck.
Does a memoir have to be chronological?
What is true?
Participants are encouraged to bring their writing, their dreams and writing desires and to participate in class exercises designed to free the creative writing flow.

The Writing Exercises evoke many of the memories and stories that your family, children and friends have been asking for. You will have the opportunity to hear and share pieces of writing in class for discussion.

Instructor:  Donna Davey is a writer of screenplays, documentary television shows and has worked in the film and television industry for over 15 years. She has written and directed award winning programs for CBC, Global and Bravo Television networks.

Author Talk - Arlene Marks

Join author Arlene F. Marks and she does a reading and a discussion on her new release  WEEKENDS CAN BE MURDER

When murder mystery theatre becomes too real for comfort...

A murder mystery weekend at a restored Victorian summer house on an island in Georgian Bay is the last place in the world where firefighter Larry Holmes would normally be He doesn't even like the mystery genre. However, he's been doing many things lately that he never expected to do, and they all seem to revolve around Selena Watt, a woman he stopped to help on a back country road several days ago.

At first, the themed weekend seems to be going off without a hitch. Then shots are fired, people get hurt, and suddenly Larry finds himself in the middle of a real-life murder mystery. Five of the guests, including Selena, belong to a literary fan group called the Crime Club, and these amateur sleuths are itching to use their skills. Someone on the island is a killer, but when you're surrounded by people who are paid to lie, and unexpected guests have unclear motives, who can be trusted?

Only the house knows...and it is not happy!

  • Meet with new people
  • Interact with other Newcomers & make new friends
  • Improve your spoken English
  • Broaden your knowledge of Canadian culture
