The second Thursday each month (EXCEPT FOR JANUARY) Mr. Jason will be at Media Lima Dental (next to Chick-fil-A) to lead a very special story time for a limited number of families. We'll read books, sing songs, and learn how to take care of our teeth. It's a great way to get your kids to feel familiar at a dental office and get some goodies to keep your kids' smiles healthy!

Registration is required as there are limited spots available in the parking lot and in the office. CLICK HERE!

Best for ages 2-6. Please include the ages of your kids so the dental office will know what goodies to include in their gift bags.

And please check out Media Lima Dental for all of your dental hygiene needs for the whole family! "Media Lima Dental isn’t your average dental office. We provide specialty care for the entire family. We seek to provide the best in quality for our patients that we would seek for ourselves and our families. We go to great lengths to make your dental visits as pleasant as possible by creating a friendly, stress-free dental experience combined with quality, compassionate care from our experienced Dentists and staff."

Darby Library Microscopy Laboratory
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

BIOLOGY: The Study of Living Organisms.

In May of 2017, the Darby Free Library was one of only 75 libraries in America to be awarded the prestigious, NASA@MYLIBRARY Grant. Its purpose is to teach the disciplines of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math.) to our patrons.

As part of our grant, we initiated a Microscopy Laboratory to introduce and to investigate the vast field of biology and its many sub disciplines, like medicine, botany, and zoology, to our students and patrons.

Nothing beats "Hands On Experimenting and Learning." There is absolutely no substitute for observing scientific specimens live through the eyepiece of a microscope. It is far superior to looking at a dry picture in a textbook. The students are much more interested and learn more.

Our students are having so much fun that they don't even realize that they are learning. Our students can't wait to get their hands on the microscopes and view biologic specimens, and to go outside into our yard and pick their own specimens to observe. We teach them the fundamentals of the Life Sciences, across the biologic spectrum, and the science of light microscopy; that is, how to properly setup and use a light microscope.

Some students have already evinced an interest in becoming medical researchers and physicians.

All are welcome to attend our exciting sessions, students and interested adults.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN!

One of the most important things parents can do, beyond keeping kids healthy and safe, is to read with them. That means starting when they are newborns and not even able to talk, and continuing well beyond the years that they can read by themselves. Study after study shows that early reading with children helps them learn to speak, interact, bond with parents, and read early themselves. In addition, reading with kids who already know how to read helps them feel close to caretakers, understand the world around them, and be empathetic citizens of the world!

The Darby Free Library is pleased to present a program titled, " 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten." The goal is to read 1,000 books to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler before your child starts kindergarten.

Start by signing up at the Darby Free Library for a free book and supplies to help you to keep track.
And, yes, you can repeat books.

RML Presents the Hometown Writers Series: Lisa Kohn, Author of To the Moon and Back: A Childhood Und
7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Meet local author and leadership expert Lisa Kohn in between destinations on her official book tour for her memoir of a childhood torn between two worlds. Lisa’s early years in 1970’s New York City were a mixture of encounter groups, macrobiotic diets, communes, Indian ashrams, and watching naked actors on off-Broadway stages during the musical HAIR. By the time Lisa was ten, her mother had them pledging their lives to the Unification Church (the Moonies). To the Moon and Back reveals how one can leave behind absurdity and horror and create a life of intention and joy. Come hear Lisa share her story.
