"PAWS for Reading is a program that allows children to read aloud to a therapy dog (or cat, or bunny!) in order to improve reading and communication skills. Children read individually to trained therapy pets (and their handlers) in schools, libraries, or other settings where they can feel comfortable and confident — and have fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble."

MFL is a participating library in PAWS for Reading program! We have enough spaces per visit for 12 kids/readers. We recommend ages 5+ or any one who can read aloud.

Readers are limited to 10 minutes of reading aloud to a pet, but can read on their own or enjoy the library while waiting. Register for each individual child you will be bringing (do not include yourself or caregivers in the number).

If you register but do not show-up without notice, you will forfeit any future sign-ups for this program. Those unable to sign up are welcome to come and take any open space that may happen from no-shows!

"Each class starts in a circle with a warm-up and gross-motor skills around the room. The dance teacher, Ms Lisa Oster, uses dance terms throughout the class (plié, releve, passé, chasse). She also incorporates a bit of yoga in the warm up. Then each class features a story with movement and accompanying music. Class ends with Freeze dance into a cool down." Parents stay in the room, but must keep conversations to minimum. Parents may join in if it helps their child but in general the kids participate on their own."

This program is sponsored and made possible by Media Veterinary Hospital!

It's a story time with lots of movement and ocassional input from the audience! Mr. Jason leads this story time for preschoolers with books, songs, dancing, and a magnetic board during free-play where the kids can use magnetic pieces to tell their own stories.

Registration is not required, but participation is!

Remember: Adults are great role models who can demonstrate great listening for their kids. Please keep conversations to a minimum or feel free to chat in the hallway while Mr. Jason immerses the kids in a language-rich environment.

This program is sponsored and made possible by Media Veterinary Hospital!
