Thomas Childers, author of The Third Reich: a History of Nazi Germany
7:30 PM

This event is a partnership with Radnor Historical Society.

Thomas Childers returns to Radnor Memorial Library to present his latest book The Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany. Childers shows how the young Hitler became passionately political and anti-Semitic as he lived on the margins of society, attracting like-minded colleagues who formed the nucleus of the nascent Nazi Party. Between 1924 and 1929 Hitler and his party languished in obscurity on the radical fringes of German politics but the onset of the Great Depression provided Hitler the issues he needed to move into the mainstream of German political life. By 1932, the Nazis had become the largest political party in Germany. What was a dysfunctional democracy transformed into a totalitarian state and began the inexorable march to World War II and the Holocaust.

Childers was the Sheldon and Lucy Hackney Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania and the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards. The author has held visiting professorships at Trinity Hall College, Cambridge, Smith College, and Swarthmore College and he has lectured in London, Oxford, Berlin, Munich, and other universities in the US & Europe.

Books will be available at the event supplied by Main Point Books.

Lisa John, Author of To the Moon and Back
7:30 PM

Meet local author and leadership expert Lisa Kohn in between destinations on her official book tour for her memoir of a childhood torn between two worlds. Lisa’s early years in 1970’s New York City were a mixture of encounter groups, macrobiotic diets, communes, Indian ashrams, and watching naked actors on off-Broadway stages during the musical HAIR. By the time Lisa was ten, her mother had them pledging their lives to the Unification Church (the Moonies). To the Moon and Back reveals how one can leave behind absurdity and horror and create a life of intention and joy. Come hear Lisa share her story.

Books will be available for purchase at the event.
