Adult NonFiction Book Club

This month, in celebration of Veteran's Day, we are reading The Monuments Men by Robert M. Edsel:

At the same time that Adolf Hitler was attempting to take over the western world, his armies were methodically seeking and hoarding the finest art treasures in Europe. The Fuehrer had begun cataloging the art he planned to collect as well as the art he would destroy.

In a race against time, behind enemy lines, often unarmed, a special force of American and British museum directors, curators, art historians, and others, called the Monuments Men, risked their lives scouring Europe to prevent the destruction of thousands of years of culture.

Focusing on the eleven-month period between D-Day and V-E Day, this fascinating account follows six Monuments Men and their impossible mission to save the world's great art from the Nazis.

Books will be available for pickup at the circulation desk. Location: Delphi Public Library -- meet at the main desk!

Evening Book Club

Meets at the Brick and Mortar Pub. Please register so we can ensure we have a large enough table!

August            11       Home for Unwanted Girls-Joanna Goodman

Philomena meets Orphan Train in this suspenseful, provocative novel filled with love, secrets, and deceit—the story of a young unwed mother who is forcibly separated from her daughter at birth and the lengths to which they go to find each other.

September 8  The book of two ways by Jodi Picoult

Experiencing memories of a man other than her husband while surviving a plane crash, an end-of-life doula on the brink of a fateful decision envisions two disparate paths that find her staying with her family or reconnecting with the past.

October 13     The vanishing Half by Britt Bennett

Twin sisters, inseparable as children, ultimately choose to live in two very different worlds, one black and one white.

November 10 The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer

Told in alternating voices from the present day and Nazi-occupied Poland, a follow-up to Before I Let You Go follows a woman's urgent search for answers to a family mystery involving her grandparents' wartime experiences.

December 8    Stay by Catherine Ryan Hyde

In the tumultuous summer of 1969, 14-year-old Lucas certainly doesn't feel like a carefree teenager. His older brother is fighting in Vietnam, sending occasional letters that arrive more blacked-out than readable. Lucas' parents fight constantly, filling the home with shouts and eerie periods of silence. Charting Lucas' journey from a sheltered teenager to a worldly young adult, Hyde brings signature compassion to her characters and highlights the relationships that allow us to feel a deeper sense of connection to the world around us.
