SKYPE Session with Karen White

Our August Lunchtime Book Discussion will feature a special conversation via Skype with Karen White, New York Times bestselling author of more than twenty novels.

Karen’s roots run deep in the South where many of her novels are set.  Her intricate plot lines and compelling characters charm and captivate readers with just the right mix of family drama, mystery, intrigue and romance.

Karen White will be discussing her novel Flight Patterns. This is a book that is hard to put down until the last secret is uncovered and the last mystery resolved. The true beauty of White’s writing comes in her creation of characters. It is one of the most satisfying stories you will read all summer long.

Although we will be discussing Flight Patterns with the author,  participants are welcome to attend and  ask questions unrelated  to the book.

Book Discussions are held the last Wednesday of the month and are free and open to the public. Multiple copies of the book will be available at the circulation desk.  Drop-ins are welcome—no registration required

September Lunchtime Book Discussion

September's featured book will be "A Piece of the World" by Christina Baker Kline. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the smash bestseller Orphan Train, this is a stunning and atmospheric novel of friendship, passion and art, inspired by Andrew Wyeth’s mysterious and iconic painting Christina’s World.

To Christina Olson, the entire world is her family farm in the small coastal town of Cushing, Maine. The only daughter in a family of sons, Christina is tied to her home by health and circumstance, and seems destined for a small life. Instead, she becomes Andrew Wyeth’s first great inspiration, and the subject of one of the best-known paintings of the twentieth century, Christina’s World.

As she did in her beloved bestseller Orphan Train, Christina Baker Kline interweaves fact and fiction to vividly reimagine a real moment in history. A Piece of the World is a powerful story of the flesh-and-blood woman behind the portrait, her complicated relationship to her family and inheritance, and how artist and muse can come together to forge a new and timeless legacy.

Lunchtime Book Discussions are held on the last Wednesday of the month and are free and open to the public. Multiple copies of the book will be available at the circulation desk.

Drop-ins are welcome—no registration required.  For further information contact the Reference Desk at 203-736-1482.
