Feminism in Western History - a Virtual Lecture by Professor Hamish Lutris

“Men should think twice before making widowhood women's only path to power.”

Via Zoom Link: Feminism is often thought to be a modern phenomenon, starting in the beginning of the 20th Century and growing in strength through the 1900s. But feminism has been a powerful current of American social activism since the inception of the country. Hamish Lutris, Associate Professor of History, Capital Community College, will focus on the position of women throughout western history, the roots of feminism in the United States, and the progress made through the end of the 1900s and into the 21st Century.

Registration is required for this program online at www.derbypubliclibrary.org and will be conducted through Zoom. To download Zoom, visit your app store or download from Zoom.us to register for a free account.

Note: Prior to the event, you will receive a reminder email with the Zoom meeting details and link.

Hamish Lutris is an Associate Professor of History, Political Science, and Geography at Capital Community College in Hartford, Connecticut. He has worked in some of America’s premier natural and historical sites, leading hiking and historical programs. He has also lectured extensively in the United States, Europe, and Canada, presenting programs on wide-ranging historical topics, including Native American history, the Civil War, Scientific History, Social and cultural history, World War I, World War II, and the American West.
