Recovery of Diamondback Terrapins in Eastham's Salt Marshes - a conservation success story by Bill A
12:30 PM - 2:30 PM

In 2002 it was recognized that the native Diamonback terrapin was facing extirpation in Eastham's bay marshes due to loss of nesting habitat, heavy predation, and road kill. Under Mass Audubon Bill Allan started a conservation program to prevent losing our iconic turtle. After eighteen years of effort & the dedication of many of Eastham's citizens, we can declare success. Learn about the background of this conservation program, how we recovered the population, and the critical contribution by many of the people of Eastham.

Why We Preserve Wild Places and Who Lives there - Peter Trull

As a supporter of Eastham Conservation Foundation you help preserve natural lands that protect water resources, wildlife habitats, scenic views and our shared Cape Cod quality of life that depends on healthy ecosystems. Together let's look deeper and closer at the diversity of habitats and the wildlife within the place we call home. You will gain a wider awareness and appreciation of the foraging, nesting, and habits of selected species as well as the importance of land preservation from Peter who has been studying and teaching about Cape Cod ecology for more than 40 years.

Wingmasters
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

The strong connection between raptors and Native Americans suggested this program. It combines four live birds of prey with authentic artifacts, many of museum quality, and both explains and shows how different Native American cultures transformed natural materials into objects of beauty and drama. Crafts displayed at this program range from shields and headdresses to clothing and jewelry. Beadwork, quillwork and basketry are showcased as well.

This program is not recommended for very young children - children ages 6 and older and adults are welcome. All present must remain seated.

New England at 400 - Eric D Lehman
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Dr. Eric D. Lehman will talk about his new book New England at 400: From Plymouth Rock to the Present Day:

At the 400th anniversary of the pilgrims’ arrival (1620-2020), it’s time to look back, commemorate, and reflect on what New England has meant to its people, and to the world. New England at 400: From Plymouth Rock to Present Day describes how every generation of immigrants and natives, Puritans and patriots, has defined this land anew. It is a story of transformation, but also continuity, since “New England” embodies both a collective philosophy and a shared past. Each chapter covers a decade of important incidents and events that defined or shaped the regional character, land, and culture.

Public screening of Hit and Run History's forthcoming documentary, Stephano: The True Story of Shakespeare's Shipwreck. Watch the trailer here: https://youtu.be/olsf9D2B2S4

The one hour film follows the story of Stephen Hopkins, the only passenger who had been to North America previously. A decade earlier, he was aboard a Jamestown-bound ship that wrecked on Bermuda and inspired Shakespeare's final play, The Tempest.

Shot on location in England, Bermuda, Virginia and New England, the production will first broadcast on public media and is scheduled for showings in January, including Pilgrim Memorial Hall in Plymouth, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster, and the Folger Shakespeare Library in DC. Presented for the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage, public interest in all aspects of the story 2020 will be at an all-time high.

EASTHAM 400 EXHIBIT - OUR STORY: 400 YEARS OF WAMPANOAG HISTORY
8:00 AM - 8:00 PM

OUR STORY: 400 YEARS OF WAMPANOAG HISTORY - in the Greg Turner Meeting Rooms through the month of December

THIS INTERACTIVE EXHIBIT SHINES A LIGHT ON PIECES OF HISTORY THAT HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE WAMPANOAG TRIBE, THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MAYFLOWER PILGRIMS, AND THE FOUNDING OF PLYMOUTH COLONY; CORNERSTONE EVENTS THAT SHAPED AMERICA’S EARLIEST BEGINNINGS.

"Our"Story: 400 Years of Wampanoag History will be expanded each year leading up to 2020 with additional pieces of Wampanoag history, and will travel throughout the region. The latest chapter is 5th in a series of what will become 7 chapters and is called "Governance". The unique style of governance practiced by the Wampanoag and other Algonquin nations was so appealing to the founding fathers of the United States that many elements are reflected in the constitution.
